Street Talk by Carol Rosen

What do you think of the hype surrounding the release of the new ‘Star Wars, Episode III’ movie? Are you planning to see it when it comes out this week? (Asked at Almaden Center)

“I’m definitely planning on seeing it, but I plan to wait until the crowds die down. When I came here in 1978 [from Iran] that was the first movie I saw along with ‘Grease.’ I’m not a trekkie, but I like action and futuristic movies. I hear that the first 10 to 15 minutes of the new ‘Star Wars’ is totally action packed.”

“I was living in Iran at the time. I didn’t see any of the first movies, they didn’t come to Iran until 1982, but we heard all about them. I haven’t seen any of the others, but I’m planning to see this one.”

Johnny Youhanpour, 37

“No, I’m not going to see it. I’m not a ‘Star Wars’ fan. I haven’t seen any of them, they seem nerdy to me.”

Kellie Meckenstock, 10 1/2

Fifth grader at Williams School

“Probably, I’ll go with my dad. I like ‘Star Wars’ movies because the special effects are awesome. I’ve seen all of them but the new one.”

Nicole Navarro, 10
Almaden
Fifth grader at Challenger School

“I’m not going to see it because it’s not really real and it doesn’t really have a point.”

Samantha Meckenstock, 12
Almaden
Sixth grader at Bret Harte

“I’m not planning on going the first week, but eventually I’ll see it, maybe. The original three were good, but the last two were terrible. They [the critics] said Episode II was going to be better, but it wasn’t. I’m planning to wait and see what other people say and if it’s worth it, then I’ll go.”

Sherwin Khazaneh-Darlou, 19
Almaden
DeAnza College student

“I won’t go this Thursday. I don’t want to go at first, it’s too crowded, I’ll wait until the crowds die down and then go. I was disappointed with the last one. Samuel L. Jackson’s character doesn’t fit the role, it’s almost as if they needed a black person to fill the role. He just doesn’t fit.”

Farshad Malek, 17
Almaden
Junior at Leland High School

“Oh yes, I plan to go as soon as I can get tickets. I wanted to see it for my birthday, but it doesn’t come out until two days later. I’m thinking about dressing up, but I don’t know. My friends and I will go on Thursday or Friday and if I dress up it will be as a Jedi knight. I’ve seen the other five movies.”
