“Doce Brazil,” featuring ginger/guitarist Jennifer Lee will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. at Joint Venture Churches of Almaden, 6581 Camden Avenue, in San Jose. The core members of Doce Brazil are Argentinean guitarist/composer/arranger/musical director Hugo Wainzinger, Brazilian percussionist Claudio Bebianno, and, the trio’s front person, vocalist/guitarist Jennifer Lee. The band will perform with guest artists, Brazilian pianist/composer Weber Iago and accordionist Rich Kuhns. Doce Brazil has been featured at the SFJazz Summerfest and has played for sold out concert venues throughout the Bay Area. South Valley Civic Theatre presents "Annie", one of the world's best-loved musicals, at the Morgan Hill Playhouse, in downtown Morgan Hill (corner of Monterey and Fifth). With its upbeat ending and a wonderful musical score, it's no wonder this heartwarming show has become an international sensation. Willow Glen High School will host the Invisible Children Organization Intra-District Dodge ball Tournament from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. This event will fund efforts to stop Northern Ugandan rebel army (LRA) abductions of small children (ages 5-12) that forces them to become child soldiers or sex-slaves. Lace up your tennis shoes and bring a racquet! The Almaden Valley Athletic Club (AVAC) will host an open house Community Tennis Day from 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. for tennis fans of all ages. Kicking off the summer season, the free event will feature tennis clinics with AVAC instructors, contests, games, refreshments, music and on-site class registration. AVAC’s outdoor pool will be also open for swimming. AVAC also celebrates its 30th anniversary in June 2006, and for the rest of the year is offering a special promotional enrollment fee to all new members. Membership representatives will be available during the Community Tennis Day. AVAC is located at 5400 Camden Avenue in San Jose.

Sally Ride Science Festival: Join hundreds of girls in grades 5-8 for an exciting day of science and socializing at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field. This festival features an action-packed street fair with experiments, food, music, and fun; a chance to meet and listen to world famous astronaut Janice Voss; and exciting workshops given by women ranging from veterinarians to aerospace engineers. Parents and teachers are also encouraged to attend. Festival hours are 11 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. The cost is $18 in advance and includes lunch, and all festival activities and materials. Humane Society Needs Foster Care Homes For rescued animals: Dog and cat lovers who would like to help save kittens, puppies, and adult animals are needed to foster animals to prepare them for adoption. Foster parents are trained to care for the animals in their homes, providing them with social and medical attention so that they can eventually be adopted into permanent, loving homes. The Humane Society provides food, cat litter, fostering advice and veterinary care. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum,1342 Naglee Avenue, San Jose, will explore the life and career of Leonardo Da Vinci in its new exhibit "Leonardo Da Vinci: Artist, Scientist, Mystic." This family-friendly exhibit will feature reproductions of Leonardo¹s sketches, scale models of his inventions (including the winged-glider), and materials from the Rosicrucian Library. Docents will be available, and there will be gallery discussions regarding Leonardo¹s historical context of, his spiritual and artistic sides, and his being a link between the Ancient World and the Modern World. Support the Almaden Business Association team at this year’s Relay For Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. Held at Davis Elementary School, 5035 Edenview Drive, Relay is the primary fund-raising event for ACS. Come on out and help the ABA surpass its 2005 fundraising total of $2,500. Relay has many family-fun activities that help raise much-needed money for the American Cancer Society. Opening Ceremonies are at 10 a.m. on 5/20.
