Licensed therapist to speak to parents of gifted children
Building emotional resiliency is topic at Lyceum annual enrollment event May 14
Lyceum of Santa Clara Valley announced today Melody Matthews-Lowman, a child psychologist specializing in gifted children, will speak about building social and emotional resiliency at Lyceum’s upcoming annual enrollment meeting.
“Gifted children don’t have all the answers; 50% underachieve because of boredom,” said Lyceum President Roberta Moore. In When Gifted Children Don’t Have the Answers, a shocking 10 percent to 20 percent drop out of high school and 40 percent don’t attend college. “Parents want access to programs that will challenge their gifted child and broaden their horizons. Lyceum offers gifted children a wide variety of challenging and stimulating interactive seminars.”
Matthews-Lowman, a registered psychologist and educational consultant licensed therapist who specializes in the unique needs of gifted children, will teach parents how to help their children build social and emotional resiliency even in the face of future adverse circumstances. She brings a practical and solutions-focused approach based on 39 years experience including as director of MENSA’s gifted children’s program and their resident gifted child expert.
The event is Friday, May 14 from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. at the Saratoga Public Library community room, 13650 Saratoga Avenue.
