Big spring book sale
Bargain hunters you won’t want to miss this. On Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Vineland’s community room, there will be a big book sale of gently used and sometimes new books covering a wide range of topics and interests. Entertainment videos, DVDs, CDs and cassettes will also be available for purchase. There will be a special “Bag of Books” sale from 2 to 3 p.m. All proceeds benefit Vineland branch library programs and services. If you love books, you won’t want to miss this event.

Composting tips and techniques Workshop
On Saturday May 21, 1 to 3 p.m. Vineland is pleased to host Master Composters, Joyce Weissman and Kim Chabraya, in an informative workshop for those who want to become efficient and productive composters. They will explain the various methods and techniques used to get the most out of the composting experience. The workshop will cover the following topics: Why compost? Why grass cycle? Why worm composting? Use of bins and tools and the creative utilization of compost in home gardens and planters. This event takes place in the community room.

Business classes for entrepreneurs

Three business classes of special interest to entrepreneurs will be taught at the Vineland branch library. They are Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. and meet in Vineland’s community room. “How To Plan For Your Business” will be taught on May 9; “How to Develop a Marketing and Sales Strategy” is offered on May 16; and on May 23, “How to Finance Your Business.” The Silicon Valley Small Business Development Center and the San Jose Public Library sponsor these classes and the registration fee for each class is $30. Events
- Adult Mystery Book Club will meet on Wednesday, May 11 at 6:45 p.m. in Vineland’s community room. The book under discussion will be Dorothy Gilman’s “Kaleidoscope.” Visitors are welcome.

- Science Fiction fans—we have a book club for you! On Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. we will discuss Greg Bear’s “Darwin’s Radio.” Visitors are always welcome.

- The Evening Book Discussion group meets on Tuesday, May 17, 7:30-9 p.m. in the library’s community room. Join us in a stimulating discussion of John McGahern’s “Amongst Women.” Visitors are welcome.

- The book discussion group for seniors (50+) meets on Thursday, May 26, at 10:15 a.m. in the library’s community room. The book under discussion is Sarah Kate Lynch’s “Blessed are the Cheesemakers.”

- On Friday, May 13, at 4 p.m. teens (ages 13-18) are invited to participate in our monthly Teens Reach meeting held in the library’s community room. The purpose of the group is to provide input on library programming and acquisitions that are geared for teens and it also seeks to foster leadership and academic skills. Community service credits are given to participating students. Light refreshments will be served.

- After School Youth Activity Program. On Wednesday, May 18 from 3:15-4:45 p.m. Vineland branch library is hosting a fun program geared to students sixth through 12th grades. The Friends of the Library will be providing free sodas and snacks. This event takes place in Vineland’s community room.

- The ESL Conversation Club is held every Tuesday at 1:15 p.m. in Study Room A. This one-hour session is a great way to practice your English and to make friends at the library. No pre-registration required.

- Family Story Time will be held on Saturdays at 11 a.m. in Vineland’s community room (on May 7 because of the book sale, it be held in the children’s area).

- “Mr. K’s” preschool story time will be held on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m. in the community room.

- Persian/English Story Time will be presented on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

- On Fridays, Toddler Story Time (ages 24-35 months) is held at 10:15 a.m. and Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5) is at 11:15 a.m.

- Mother Goose Story Time (ages 12-24 months) is held on Tuesdays at 11:10 a.m. This is a 20-minute program.

- Story Time Express, a 15-minute story time for preschoolers, is held every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Vineland Branch Library is located at 1450 Blossom Hill Road. It is open Monday through Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For questions, please call 808-3000 during business hours.
