Popular Christian Pastor Joel Osteen to hold worship service in San Jose on June 8

Pastors of the largest church in America, Joel and Victoria Osteen of Lakewood Church will hold a worship event at the HP Pavillion on Friday, June 8 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 each. The evening will also feature the music of Dove Award winning Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Grammy-Award winning Israel Houghton and the Lakewood Ensemble.

Joel Osteen was recently featured as one of Barbara Walter’s “10 Most Fascinating People of 2006.” He was also named “Most Influential Christian in America of 2006” by the readers of The Church Report magazine.

Lakewood Church of Houston, Texas is the largest and fastest growing church in the United States with nearly 40,000 members holding services in one of the largest worship centers in the United States. Lakewood Church’s weekly services are also broadcast on television in the U.S. and around the world in over 100 nations. Professor to give lecture on ‘Jerusalem through the ages: A Biblical archaeologist’s point of view’

Professor William G. Dever, Ph.D will present a lecture on “Jerusalem through the ages: A Biblical archaeologist’s point of view” at the Annual Rabbi Malcolm M. Sparer Lecture on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregation Emanu-El, 2 Lake Street, San Francisco.

Dever is Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Archaeology Near Eastern Department, University of Arizona. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. RSVP to the Board of Rabbis: vivians@sfjcf.org or call ( 415) 369-2861 by May 11.


San Jose Police seek victims of burglary suspect

The San Jose Police Department Burglary Unit is investigating several reports of residential daytime burglaries in the area of Meridian Avenue and Camden Avenue. The suspect enters and takes jewelry, cash and other small items.

A suspect was arrested for burglary in this case on April 27, 2007. He was in possession of a number of stolen items. He is a white male adult in his 40s with light-colored hair. He was driving a large white SUV.

Letter Carriers Food Drive to be held May 12

The United State Postal Service 15th annual Letter Carrier’s Food Drive will be held Saturday, May 12 to benefit local food banks. Customers are advised to put canned and non-perishable food items in a sack by your mailbox on that date.
