Bowling for Badges nearly sold out

The San Jose Police Foundation will hold a Bowling for Badges fundraiser on Thursday, May 8 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the 300 San Jose Bowl, 5420 Thornwood Drive, formerly Oakridge Lanes.

Because the city is suffering from a deficit, there have been cuts throughout city services, including the police. While many necessary items did not make the cut, the all-volunteer nonprofit San Jose Police Foundation raises funds for safety and technology equipment for better protection of our officers, canine unit and community. The group is raising funds to purchase items such as canine bullet-proof vests, trauma kits for patrol cars to treat critical injuries prior to EMTs arriving, Segways® for better airport patrol, and night-vision goggles, among other items.

Besides the 50 teams that have signed up, Mayor Chuck Reed, Santa Clara County District Attorney Delores Carr and Police Chief Rob Davis as well as many of the city’s council members and a number of community leaders will be attending. Only five team spots and 10 individual spots remain, so try to get your information in before Friday, April 25.

Registration is $50 per individual bowler and $250 for teams of five. The money gets you shoes and a bowling ball, one-hour warmup, two tournament games and the all-night gourmet buffet. The buffet includes carved meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, a pasta station, a sushi bar and tempting desserts. Those who don’t feel like exercising can purchase the dinner for $25.

Sponsors include 300 San Jose; Heritage Bank; Westfield; Marketing Maniacs; Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel; Yellow Checkered Cab; 31 Infotech; Landmark Security; Joseph J. Albanese; and the San Jose Police Foundation Board of Directors. Those interested in helping sponsor the event, and provide exposure for your company, should call Rich de la Rosa at (408) 828-1983 or Ben Angileri at (408) 997-1198.
