Hundreds turn out for 2005 MS Walk Almaden’s Doug Richardson raises $3,400 with eight-member team
It rained on Friday, but fortunately for the 1,500 participants of the 2005 Silicon Valley MS Society Walk, it was dry for the six-mile walk the next day.
Some sported diva boas, some angel halos, some were all in red T-shirts, and some were all in blue. But they all had one thing in common: someone they know had been stricken with multiple sclerosis.
Doug Richardson of Almaden has had MS since his 20s and has become an energetic volunteer for the Silicon Valley chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which helps victims of the debilitating disease.
Richardson’s group was named “Journey” after the south San Jose Christian church he and his wife Debi, a teacher at Castillero Middle School, attend. As of this writing, his team of eight walkers raised $3,400.
“It was a great day,” said the retired marketing executive with a satisfied smile.
