Have you seen this cat?

An elderly couple in Almaden has lost their 11-year-old “precious” cat, just one day after the elderly man returned home from hip surgery. The male grey cat with green eyes disappeared within two hours on March 25 in the vicinity of Redwood Plaza mini mart and Moss Oaks Road. If anyone has seen this cat or mistakenly picked it up, the couple urges you to call 268-4893. A reward is being offered.




Nonviolence Conference hosts Yolanda King in San Jose April 21

Carry the Vision, a Community Nonviolence Conference and Youth Leadership Summit, will be held this Saturday at Evergreen Valley College.

The conference provides practical ways to inspire participants to choose nonviolent methods to resolve conflicts and deal with issues in their everyday lives. Over 50 organizations, more than 500 adults and hundreds of youth are expected to attend. Now in its fifth year, it is part of A Season for Nonviolence, an annual 64-day grassroots effort designed to educate and inspire people all over the world about the teachings of nonviolence.

The event will be held Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration begin at 8 a.m. at Evergreen Valley College, 3095 Yerba Buena Rd., San Jose 95135.

The keynote speaker is Yolanda King, eldest daughter of legendary civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, who will begin her speech at 10 a.m. King has been in the midst of the quest for human rights and peace all of her life. She hopes to "inspire individuals to passionately create peace in their own lives, thereby encouraging the same within their families, communities and across the globe."

King’s speech will be followed by other speakers and a choice of panel discussions followed by an afternoon community dialog.

Sponsors of the event include Times Media (parent company of the Almaden Times Weekly), San Jose Vice Mayor Dave Cortese, Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, City Year, Evergreen Valley College and San Jose Sikh Gurdwara.

Cole Porter music coming to Almaden Valley
The Almaden Adventures in the Arts will conduct a tribute to the music of Cole Porter on Friday and Saturday nights April 20-21. The production titled “Well Did You Evah?” is being led by music director John Leslie and will be held at the Joint Venture Churches of Almaden Valley, 6581 Camden Ave. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. both nights.

The show will feature a number of popular tunes from Porter’s vast repertoire with song and dance numbers by members of the joint churches adult and children’s choirs. Reserved tickets can be obtained by calling (408) 268-0243. Prices are $15 for adults; $8 for students; and $5 for children.
