Convicted sex offender Cary Verse remains in San Jose

Although two April eviction deadlines have come and gone, convicted sex offender Cary Verse continues to remain in San Jose and the owner of the motel says that she will consider allowing him to stay even longer.
According to Sharline Reid, owner of the Mission Motel on Monterey Road, Verse seldom leaves his room and keeps to himself. There have been no complaints from other hotel guests, something she says is prompting her to let him stay.
The extension is due in large part to the fact that the state has been unable to find alternative housing for Verse somewhere else.
Vice Mayor Pat Dando is not pleased with the delays and discussed the situation with Police Chief Rob Davis at length earlier this week.
It is his understanding that Verse will be moved within the next couple of days, she said. I also expect that people will be out in front of the motel again if this isn't resolved.
According to Dando, neighbors have been patient in giving the state the benefit of the doubt. But she warns that if Verse isn't moved soon, they have promised to resume picketing in an effort let officials know that they will remain committed to being vigilant until he is removed from their neighborhood.
On Tuesday April 13, Verse's attorney, Ron Boyer met with the Contra Costa deputy district attorney and a Superior Court judge to further review the case, but details of the meeting were not released. A review hearing date is scheduled for April 26.
