Rock thrown at SUV, driver goes to jail for kidnapping
On April 1, 2005, at about 3:20 p.m. on Union Avenue near St. Edwards Church (SJ), residents notified the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office that they witnessed a kidnapping. They said they saw a man jump out of his car, grab a young boy, force him into his car, then drive away.
Apparently, a 12-year-old boy and his friends were out playing when the boy threw a rock at one of his playmates. The rock missed its target, hit the ground, skipped up and hit the rear of a passing SUV. The boy fled the scene, but immediately returned.
The driver of the SUV exited his vehicle and tracked down the boy. He yelled at the boy, grabbed him by the arm, placed the boy in his SUV, and told him he was taking him to his parents. The boy said his parents were at work, but he could be taken to his caregiver. The driver briefed the caregiver and left his contact information so that the boy’s parents could contact him for damages to his vehicle.
Deputies contacted the driver of the SUV at his residence. He corroborated the boy’s story. He said he was upset that the boy had damaged his SUV and wanted to take the boy home to talk to his parents. He said he meant no harm to the boy.
The suspect, Scott Andrew Carr, 25, of San Jose, was taken into custody for kidnapping and false imprisonment and booked into the Main Jail without incident.
