Motivational Christian speaker to give seminar
on raising teens with morals
Josh McDowell, a popular figure in the Christian culture, will visit Valley Christian High School to address parents of teens and answer the question “Why Belief Matters.”
The seminar will address issues regarding why teens are adopting distorted beliefs about religion, what makes religion relevant and how to instill convictions within your family that leads them to make moral choices in their life.
The seminar will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, April 3, in the Valley Christian High School gym at 100 Skyway Drive, San Jose. Author Jerry Tello to speak at Pioneer High School on March 28
Famed author Jerry Tello will be speaking on “living with dignity” at Pioneer High School on March 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. The event will be held at the new PAC building on the school's campus and is free to anyone in the public.
Tello’s speech will focus on father/son relationships, as well as family values.
Tello has written eight books, including children books, and is an accomplished speaker on family strengthening, leadership development and cross-cultural issues. All told, Tello has over 25 years of experience in public speaking, institute training, as well as technical and program development assistance for community, state and national organizations.
Tello has received several awards for his work, including the California Governor’s Award and The International Ambassador of Peace Award. In addition, President Bill Clinton presented Tello with the Presidential Crime Victims Service Award at the White House. Tello is currently the Director of the National Latino Fatherhood and Family Institute in East Los Angeles.

Todd Abad graduates from basic combat training
Army National Guard Pvt. Todd J. Abad has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia,
S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training
exercises.
Abad is the son of Dennis and Linda Abad of Almaden Valley.
Hospice of the Valley Bereavement announces
new
educational series for grieving community
Hospice of the Valley offers a new community bereavement educational series on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 p.m.–8 p.m. April 6-Aug. 3, 2006 for the grieving community. The public is invited to attend one or more of the meetings.
The April 6 topic, “Different Faces of Grief: Bereavement and the Family,” will delve into questions about different reactions to grief and role changes and family expectations.
Other monthly topics include: “The Paperwork Piles Up: Handling My Financials” (May 4); “Children and Loss” (June 1); “From Spiritual Anorexia to Spiritual Freedom” (July 6); and “Who Am I Now? Malibu Grill rescheduled to open in April
The scheduled February reopening of Malibu Grill on Camden Avenue has been postponed due to construction delays.
“Things are really picking up,” said owner Katrina Padilla. “We are looking forward to [hopefully] opening the last week of April.”
The popular eatery was damaged in a grease fire in September 2005. Quick responses by employees and the fire department resulted in no injuries and damage largely contained to the kitchen and ventilation system.
