Seniors enjoy St. Patty's Day meal cooked and served by retired police and fire personnel
By Miranda Schultz
Staff Writer
Nearly 200 Almaden senior citizens gathered on St. Patty's Day to enjoy a feast of corned beef and cabbage at the Joint Ventures Churches on Camden Avenue. It is a tradition for many Irish to eat corned beef cabbage on this holiday. The retired police and firefighters started the popular St. Patty's Day luncheon tradition several years ago and it has grown tremendously over the years. Servicing the community is second nature to these men and women.
Jerry Boyer, a retired firefighter who helped prepare the meal, says, “We love doing this, and we love being retired because it gives us time to do this kind of thing!”
