Nonprofit to train and educate at-risk young adults in green technology
Bob Hennessy, president and founder of the San Jose Conservation Corps, has created the Worldwide Green Corps (WWGC), a new Not-For-Profit Membership Corporation designed to train and educate the local workforce on all aspects of energy efficiency.
WWGC will train young men and women in their local communities on how to use alternative sources of energy such as solar, wind, water, human energy and other alternative fuel sources by setting up training programs throughout California to teach manufacturing, training and installation of these new energy sources.
Hennessy is leveraging the models of his very successful San Jose Conservation Corps and YouthBuild Programs, which provide opportunities for at-risk young adults to gain valuable education opportunities to succeed in Silicon Valley's workforce.
"Our goal is to turn a world-wide environmental crisis into an opportunity for at-risk young adults by strengthening and promoting their participation in the environmental industry through education and training," said Bob Hennessy. "We already have a successful track record working with at-risk and inner city youth. The Worldwide Green Corps will build upon our experience and help level the playing field even more by giving them the skills and credentials needed to excel in the new energy economy."
Hennessy is partnering with Community Colleges, the California Conservation Corps, local youth Corps and YouthBuild programs to provide training and certification in the installation of solar panels.
