Did you watch the Academy Awards ceremony on Feb. 24? What were your favorite and least favorite parts of the show? (Asked at Via Valiente Center)

“I watched a little bit of it. I haven’t seen any of the movies, but I didn’t think it was boring. I especially liked when they showed the movie clips for the best picture.”

Colleen Hirano, 44
Almaden
Physical therapist

“I watched a couple of clips of it on the Internet. It was alright, I enjoyed seeing the movie clips.”

Elena Basanty, 25
Almaden
Personal trainer

“I did watch it, but it was a little dry and a little boring. I ended up making brownies. I think the writers’ strike was reflected in the dialog. Helen Mirren looked great and was quite elegant.”

Tina Lee, 43
Almaden
Jewelry designer

“Yes, I did watch it and it was a little duller than usual, but the gowns were fun to see. One dress was spectacularly ugly with red bows and a big black plastic thing hanging on it. The one movie I wanted to win was ‘Lars and the Real Girl’ [which was up for one category], but it didn’t win. It was a really good movie.”

Barbara Leone, 50-plus
Almaden
Homemaker/volunteer

“No, I didn’t because I have a 7-month-old baby so I didn’t have time to watch. I usually watch it for the dresses."

Amanda Doan, 41
Almaden
Marketing

“I did watch most of it, but I didn’t get to finish it. I think it wasn’t too bad because the writers just came off their strike. I always like to see the people who have passed on and it was sad to see Heath Ledger. I wonder if it’s worth all the money and fame.”

Denise Todd, 45
Almaden
HR specialist

“I did not. It didn’t interest me at all. I’m generally not interested in the academy’s opinions.”

Ray Strong, 65
Almaden
IBM Research

“I liked the retrospectives, the collages and the history of the previous winners they did just before they announced the winner. I did not like the binocular or the bad dream sequences. I loved the live performing musicals.”

Sheree Kirby
Almaden
Homemaker
