Leland, Bret Harte raise funds

Editor,
It has come to my attention that both Leland High School and Bret Harte Middle School both were recipients of additional funding to the tune of a bonus $1,000 this year in Safeway’s “10 percent Back To Schools” promotional campaign that ran from last July until September.

Both schools ranked among the top 250 in the nation in raising funds for their schools. Not only has Safeway made significant donations based upon club card enrollments in the California eScrip program, but they have honored us with this additional award based wholly upon the number of those who opted to enroll in the eScrip program and continued to shop at Safeway throughout the year.

As the eScrip coordinator for both Leland High and Bret Harte this year, I am beside myself with appreciation both for this type of quality program offered by Safeway’s corporate offices, but also our own Safeway store in being so quick to ask for my card as well as a willingness to assist our schools whenever requested. They are truly representative of the community spirit that makes living here refreshingly unique given the size of our city and county. They embody what we love most about Almaden and this precious valley that we gladly now call home (for the last two years).

THANK YOU SAFEWAY for being such a strong supporter of our schools in the midst of an ever-dwindling funding crisis in our California School system. Thank you. And thank you, too, neighbors and friends, who have gladly provided your Safeway club cards and signed up to support your local schools. YOU ARE ALL MAKING OUR KIDS’ SPORTS / CLUBS / SCHOLASTIC EXPERIENCE A TRULY AWESOME ONE!

And for those who have not taken the opportunity to sign up to make this support a continuing blessing, please go to www.escrip.com and sign up for your favorite Almaden School or nonprofit to help Safeway continue to pay it forward to our favorite schools!
