Street Talk by Shari Kaplan
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, what's the most romantic
thing someone's done for you, or you've done for someone? If neither
is applicable, what's the most romantic thing someone could do for
you, or you'd like to do for them? (Asked at Almaden
Lake Park)
"A card or a rose would be the simplest and nicest romantic
thing to do, for either a man or a woman. If I got something like
this, I'd feel appreciated and I'd find it very thoughtful. It's
straight to the point. It's the thought that counts, not how much
something costs."

"I'd like it if a guy bought me chocolates and then took me
out for dinner and a movie. The dinner should be some place calm
without a lot of people screaming and yelling. And afterwards we'd
spend time together, talk and hang out."

"One year, my husband Steve cleaned the whole house for me—a
two-story house—and then made me a dinner of steak and potatoes.
It was a fantastic dinner, and it was great to eat it in a clean
house. This took place on Valentine's Day, in fact!"

"The most romantic thing I ever did was when I proposed to
my wife. She had pneumonia at the time. I got down on one knee,
she looked at me with her green eyes and coughed right in my face—I
knew we were meant for each other! She said, 'you better not be
B.S.ing me!' She coughed again, then said yes."

"I'd like to get something special—like a teddy bear
or a rose or a card. If I was going to do something romantic for
someone else, I'd probably buy a rose or a bear, and just spend
time with him at his favorite place."

"We moved to this area from Korea; I'm a visiting scholar for
a year. Valentine's Day is very popular in Korea. It's like a festival.
Every Valentine's Day, my wife and my daughters buy chocolate for
me. My wife always chooses chocolates in a beautiful box with decorations."
