Work Experience Program offers unique
job opportunities for youth 14-16
The city of San Jose’s Work Experience Program (WEP) offers youth an opportunity to gain valuable work experience while learning employment skills through weekly workshops.
The WEP is now accepting applications for the Spring Session 2006, slated to begin March 13, 2006 and last through May 5, 2006.
The program will hire 20 enthusiastic and motivated youth to work in various city departments for eight weeks. Positions include recreation, parks, libraries and clerical. Youth are paid minimum wage ($6.75) and will learn hands-on job skills, along with the steps to develop a cover letter, reference sheet, resume and more.
Applications are available at the WEP office (address below) or the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Web site, www.sanjoseca.gov/prns. The Web site provides additional information, including minimum qualifications.
The Spring Session deadline is Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 by 5 p.m. Applications can be mailed or hand delivered to PRNS, Work Experience Program, Shirakawa Community Center, 2072 Lucretia Avenue, San Jose, Calif., 95122. For more information, contact Felipa Driscoll or Kelly Richards at (408) 277-3578.
