Battery on an officer
Leigh High School, 5210 Leigh Avenue
A pay job officer was breaking up an altercation in the parking lot after a basketball game when one of the involved parties, a 16-year-old female cheerleader, hit the officer several times. The officer took the female into custody. The female suspect’s 15-year-old brother then attempted to free his sister from the officer’s custody. Both juveniles were cited and released to their parents. Neither of the juveniles nor the officer were injured.
Forty-year-old magazine salesman arrested for sexually
assaulting a 74-year-old West San Jose resident
On Dec. 30, 2005, a 40-year-old male suspect was selling magazine subscriptions door to door in the area of Prospect High School in west San Jose. The suspect contacted an elderly woman at her home and convinced the woman to let him inside her residence.
Once inside the house, the suspect grabbed the woman and forced her to a back bedroom where he sexually assaulted her.
The suspect fled the home after telling the woman not to contact the police. The victim called her husband who, in turn, called the police. Officers responded to the area and detained a subject, who was later identified as the suspect.
The suspect was interviewed and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for burglary and various sex offenses.
Several other agencies have experienced similar cases, some of which are currently under investigation.
Son arrested on elder neglect in case involving
the death of 80-year-old father
On Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at 3:30 p.m., San Jose Police officers were dispatched to Regional Medical Center regarding an elder abuse investigation. The victim died later that evening.
Preliminary investigation revealed the 80-year-old victim, Thoung Bang, was living in the 5600 block of Hoffman Court with his 32-year-old son, Steven To Tu, who is named as the suspect in the case, and other family members. The victim was bedridden due to a stroke and required constant supervision. The suspect was the primary care giver. The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for elder abuse/neglect resulting in death.
