John Pratt named Santa Clara Valley Photographer of the Year 2003

The Professional Photographers of Santa Clara Valley organization has named John Pratt their Photographer of the Year for 2003. The announcement was made at their annual awards banquet Jan. 14. Pratt received Best of Show Award for the image titled “Baby and Butterfly Fantasy.” He also received the first place image in the environmental portrait category for the second year in a row. The first place image was titled “Our Family.” The local association of photographers has been in existence for more than 40 years and has approximately 100 Bay Area members.

Pratt currently serves as vice president of the photographic organization and is the owner and operator of JP Impressions Distinctive Photography. But he admits that he would not be able manage the studio without the assistance he receives from his wife. They are expecting their first child in June. John started the studio in 1990 and has been located in downtown San Jose since 1994.

The Professional Photographers of Santa Clara Valley have photographic competitions every other month throughout the year. At each of the competitions, the images that are entered are critiqued and judged by a panel of fellow photographers. At the end of the year, all of the highest scoring prints are placed into a year-end competition. The prints are then judged by another panel of judges from out of the area. The photographer with the overall highest score from the entire year is then awarded Photographer of the Year.
