Local high school students to speak on global warming at Lions' student speaker contest

'Global Warming, Fact or Fiction'

Almaden Super Lions will host a speech contest of area high school students on Feb.7 at 7 p.m. at The Atrium at 1009 Blossom River Way in San Jose.

The topic is "Global Warming, Fact or Fiction." This yearly speech contest is open to ninth through 12th graders and will include students from Pioneer, Branham, Leland and Valley Christian schools. Scholarships are awarded at the Lions Club level with the winner going on to compete at different levels of Lions culminating at the multiple district state meet.

The public is invited to attend, but must be in the room promptly at 7 p.m. For information, call Lois Ferber 268-6739 or Don Simpson 238-1919.


ABA's February networking mixer to be held Feb. 1

The Almaden Business Association's February mixer will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cup and Saucer Café at 1375 Blossom Hill Road (in the Princeton Plaza, near Meridian Avenue).

Don't miss this opportunity to mix and mingle with other Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley business people and members of the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. Guests are welcome; members are encouraged to invite other Almaden Valley business contacts who might wish to learn more about the benefits of ABA and SJSV Chamber of Commerce membership.

ABA members free with advance RSVP: Member rate is $5 at the door, or free after a $5 discount when and advance reservation is received by noon on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Non-members: RSVP by noon, Wednesday Jan. 31 and receive a $5 discount off the $10 non-member mixer rate. Entry includes appetizers, soft drinks, door prizes and, of course, lots of business networking.
