The Academy Award nominations were handed out on Tuesday. Do you think there will be a televised awards ceremony this year because of the Writers’ Guild strike? Why or why not? Will you watch it? (Asked at Almaden Plaza)

“I don’t think there will be a show. I don’t think there will be enough participation because the actors won’t cross the picket lines.”

Sue Gleadhill, 39
Almaden
Animator for Dreamworks

“Probably not because a lot of the actors support the writers. If they do have it there will be a slim turnout.”

Stephanie Ogletree, 23
Almaden
Waitress

“I do because there’s a big demand for it. Some people plan for it all year. I don’t watch it.”

Marilyn Merkel
Almaden
Registered nurse

“I think yes, there will be an Academy Awards show because the Writers’ Guild will settle. I might watch it.”

Jeff Sorrick, 47
Almaden
City of Sunnyvale

“Yes, it will go on because that’s their night for themselves. I don’t think they will miss it. I probably will watch it while I’m doing other things."

Eva Ventura, 48
Almaden
Assistant at Simonds Elementary

“Yes, I think it will go on because I don’t think they will miss it. They will get an announcer like Billy Crystal or someone who doesn’t need a writer. I don’t think they will miss the opportunity to show off their designer dresses. I’ll watch the beginning. That’s the best part and the most fun.”

Gloria Ashdown
Almaden
Realtor

“It depends on who emcees the show. If it’s Robin Williams, he can ad lib and doesn’t need a writer. I don’t know if anyone would cross the picket line, but I do know that the network will suffer because if they have to do it like the Golden Globes they will lose money from the sponsors.”

Jeannette Grundstrom, 53
Almaden
Interior designer

“No, I don’t think they will have the regular show. They will probably do it like they did the Golden Globe Awards or maybe postpone it until the strike is over.”

Steve Quigley, 55
San Jose
Fourth grade teacher at Simonds Elementary
