Pyle rewards District 10 volunteers

The Good Neighbor Awards are typically part of the State of the City program and 2008 was no different. The awards go to those within each council district who have done an exceptional job making things better. Councilmember Nancy Pyle honored three community members and recognized the Kiwanis Club of Almaden and the Key Club at Leland High School for working to make their community better. Carla Lucarotti, center, is the Key Club advisor at Leland and she’s also the wife of Jim Lucarotti, right, a past president of the Kiwanis Club. Carla has worked hard for the past 30 years as the club’s advisor and provided the impetus for Leland students to give back to the community through service work. The club donates toys to the Family Giving Tree every year, and some years has managed to nearly match large corporate donations. Carla and Key Club President Chris Verberg received the commendations for the Key Club. The Kiwanis club offers community service to various groups as well as providing annual scholarships for students that have managed to turn their lives around. Jim Lucarotti received the Kiwanis Club commendation. Despite busy lives both Lucarottis take time to help out the community in a variety of ways.
