Local DJs invite public to ‘KOME’ together for former
rock jock
Dennis Erectus Benefit Concert this Friday
The notorious and legendary radio personality Dennis Erectus, had a very serious heart attack on Thanksgiving Day, 2006. He is still hospitalized, and remains in serious condition. Left without health insurance, his media colleagues and fans want to help him with a benefit concert to offset his health care expenses and give him the honor he is due.
The benefit concert will be held at the Avalon Nightclub at 777 Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara on Friday, Jan. 12 with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the concert starting at 8 p.m. You must be 21 years old or older to
attend.
Musical performances include Greg Khin and Chris Jackson, Robert Berry with a very special re-union by Hush, San Jose Rocks inductees Syndicate of Sound, The Count Five, AC/DC tribute band “Long Gone Bon,” plus “60s local garage band legends” The New Arrivals, Lebocat, and additional appearances by Rubber Side Down, Sal Birtola of Palace, Ben Street of Fragile, Mike Rose who was on the last Pat Travers release and other local rock
musicians.
So many of the Bay Area’s radio listeners and beyond knew him from his work on radio station KOME where he started in 1977. He was the first “shock jock” DJ in the country and credited with creating the now so frequently used theater format as well as a cutting edge, audience insulting delivery still heard on today’s shock radio
shows. He created characters blended into performance skits, and utilized TV and movie audio drop-ins to tie together the music within each show. Every show was a work of art and a workout for the minds of
the listener.
Erectus would often broadcast from remote locations like a rundown bus stop or the San Jose city dump. He said, “I would always pick unusual locations like that because I liked the challenge of something unexpected happening.” His antics with then Mayor Janet Gray Hayes were bold and topical. His sexual innuendos were often far-reaching and sometimes so realistic that many thought they were actually happening—and sometimes they were. He even went so far as to do a broadcast from the hot tub and invited listeners to get naked and jump in—and they did!
A donation of $40. per person will be collected at the door with all proceeds going directly to Dennis
Erectus.
Checks can be made out to Dennis Netto (Dennis Erectus’ given name) or Dennis Erectus. Visit www.nightclubavalon.com or www.kome.us for ticket information or you can send a check of any denomination to
